History

Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. (MEC) was founded in 1945 by Ted Bachhuber and his Uncle Leo. The original manufacturing facility was a rented garage building in a back alley off Mayville’s Main Street. Total assets of the company included a few worn metal working tools, a little cash, and an abundance of grand ideas. The original letterhead bore the title “Tools, Dies, and Special Machinery.” For the first fledgling years, MEC concentrated on these products as well as offering their services to the larger manufacturers in the area. Shortly into the business venture, Leo’s health forced him to retire and then Ted and his wife Grace took over the business.

As an avid outdoors person, trap shooter and inventor, Bachhuber entered MEC into the shotshell reloader market in 1955. One of his most popular inventions, the MEC 600 Jr., has become the #1 Shotshell Reloader in the world, having sold over 2 million worldwide. For decades, MEC continued inventing, building, and selling shotshell reloaders; always giving the highest regards to educating the public on safe handling practices.

In 2013, the MEC Clay Target Machine product line was introduced. The machines are made to the same quality and reliability standards set forth on all MEC products. Then in 2016, a creation of a new product line evolved with the metallic single stage press called the MEC Marksman®. Today the employees of MEC Outdoors continue their commitment to customers by providing quality products backed by outstanding customer service. Everyone takes pride in making the products here in the USA, right in America’s heartland. From the reloading bench to the field, MEC Outdoors is with you.
